The study, which was conducted across twenty-three nations, made public that 47% of Brit folks surveyed can recollect the perfume linked with an image, and many stated that they would actively take a picture of something based only on the way in which it smells. Referring to the results, Dr Heinz said: “For many years scientists have conducted research into the connection between our senses and our ability to recall memories. My analysis shows that our sense of smell in particular has a uniquely intimate and direct connection with the area of the brain that controls emotional memory. It isn’t surprising that so many folks selected freshly cut grass and sun lotion as their top memory scents, as these smells are strongly associated with childhood – the time when our first scent memories are being formed. For many , scents associated with childhood such as the smell of a hot summers day in the fairground have an especially robust ability to trigger an emotional memory that takes them back to their youth.”

A representative for a major electronic camera manufacturer comments: “While a photograph is the final way to capture and document lifes most precious memories, we wanted to try something a little different and see whether there was another factor involved in recalling a certain point.” The manufacturer has been exploring every angle that people pursue when wanting for new Sony digital cameras.
