News and reviews about the Canon EOS 1000D
After a first look at the Canon EOS 1000D digital SLR, he new entry-level model designed for beginners to photography and compact users looking to move to DSLR territory, we can conclude we have a very powerfull machine in our hands.
Canon announces the EOS 1000D shoot digital SLR lighter and more affordable succesor of the The EOS 300D Digital SLR photography to under around $1000
The Canon EOS 1000D is designed to compete with the lower specification digital SLR.
Typical rivals are the Olympus E-420 to with 14-42mm lens has 10MP, 3 AF points, sensitivity range of ISO100-1600 and the compactness of a system that can provide 4/3rds.
Also the Pentax K200D with 18-55mm lens will give you 10.2Mp, AF 11 points, sensitivity range of ISO100-1600 together with the known time of testing and warning system for dust.
The Canon EOS 1000D is the lowest DSLR in the range so technically, it will not be as good as the EOS 450D. The main differences are the bottom 10MP resolution of the EOS 1000D, and only a 7-point AF system. There is also a lack of spot metering, smaller 2.5in LCD, 3fps slower and only 12bit RAW compression compared the EOS 450d of the compression of 14bit.
However, the camera still has a DIGIC III processor, cleaning of the sensor and Live View. Not to mention that is smaller and lighter than the EOS 400D and the EOS 450d, hence in essence, the EOS 1000D is an update EOS 400D.
A quick view at the Canon EOS 1000D shows us that it includes the same 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 image stabilized model that was introduced with the EOS 450D. The plastic lens mount fits into the dual purpose of mounting plates. The reason for the double assembly goes back to when Canon began making digital SLR Cameras. They do not want people to use their same old good 18mm wide angle lens for your backup film SLR so the new lenses come with a mounting system different to the normal EF lenses.
Apart from the obvious faults there is one of the main features which makes it worth it and it’s that activating the flash and depth of field preview button is simpler and is now set up for people that are right-handed. It is a nice touch that Canon has decided to maintain the depth of field as a preview since other companies choose to remove it. Apprentices photographers will find this useful learning, while their art.
On the Canon’s EOS 1000D right shoulder is the mode dial with the power switch under it. The dedicated ISO button found on the EOS450D is also available on the EOS1000D just behind the scroll wheel. The grip slants out toward the front and the shutter release button is on it.
The display is under the hotshoe flash and integrated with the vision of diopters perched on her upper right corner. The 2.5in LCD screen is on the left shunt with the menu screen and the buttons on top of it. On his right side are the AV / off button of the exhibition along with the white balance, playback and navigation. The Delete button to delete images that do not want the card is at the bottom right corner. The Eye-Start AF detectors were not installed in the EOS 1000D, Canon time has been reserved for the role of the EOS 450d.
Canon EOS 1000D The navigation pad is used for the relocation of the entire menu, but also doubles for access to functions of the unit, measurement, image focus and styles. The button in the center is to confirm the changes made in the menu and also to activate the live view. Note that the live view is to pay off. You have to let the menu before it work.
To adjust the points of AF, you have to use the button at the upper right corner before moving through the points with the scroll wheel. This allows you to concentrate on off-center subjects without the need for recomposing.
The point of usefulness of the design is that it is exactly the same as the EOS 450d and you do not have to be a want or need for more than one body. If that’s the case, then do not go wrong with any of the provision.
As with the other minor specification range EOS, the body is made of a mixture of plastics that are not as strong as the bodies of magnesium alloy, but that does not mean that collapse or fall apart.
In fact, despite its weight, size and materials, the camera is well made. I do not like the material used in the handle, as it does not help with my grip and irritate the delicate skin.
The battery is the same as the EOS 450d, to return to what I mentioned earlier about backup of the models, the batteries are interchangeable, which is very useful. The battery is designed to be removed but Canon has led the small metal rod lock that had to be pulled back (similar to a toilet roll holder) for the release of the body. This is so that a grip can be fitted and the new cap is so curtailed in that still leaves quite easily.
Ergonomically, Canon has always been a winner, which is one reason we’re so popular. The grip in turns sharply again to meet the main part of the body, but that only meets the fingers better. Everything is where it should and can be accessed easily by the fingers or thumbs.
The menu on the screen reverses the colors of the 450d employing a black and white writing. The design is similar to the opening and shutter speed in the top row in big letters. The way that the priority now will have a gray box that surrounds it.
The rest of the screen is composed of exposure compensation dial, ISO, shooting mode, white balance, unity, the image of style, measurement, focusing, battery life, size of the file and the number of photographs in the cards included.
Canon EOS 1000DMore important characteristics need to have the buttons on the back of a camera these days, so the flash options are banished to the menu system.
To change the settings, you need to enter the setup menu and choose the control of flash. This gives you five options. Only the first two of these apply to the built-in flash, so you can change and some of the adjustments.
You can adjust the shutter sync to the first or second curtain and adjust the flash compensation, although this can be changed in the shooting menu under exposure compensation.
The other three are for external flash settings and can only be adjusted when a Canon Speedlite is equipped with the exception of the E-TTL II setting that can be changed to the average assessment or measurement.
Red-eye reduction is switched on the first page of the menu, similar to the flash mode, you do not have a dedicated button on the outside of the camera.
Color reproduction is good as the Canon DIGIC III processor drives the blue and green colors. I’ve seen more saturated color red in the other cameras, but that is usually to help the portraits. In general, the cameras are set up to the landscapes, hence the blue and green drive.
The tone of the skin is well balanced and I like the color of earthy colors. The mono tones are welcome to the black and gray that seems to get out more, which is regrettable. However, the camera has a good overall result.
Like the Canon EOS 1000D is a model for beginners, it must be good in all styles of photography so that beginners can find a niche or particular type of photography they want to do.
We already know that the camera is easy to use and the mode of portrait in the processor slightly increases the red for a slightly warmer tone to the skin. Beaten the camera in aperture priority, passing the wide-open f / 8 and the election of the portrait image loses the style warm skin tone, which is more balanced, adding sharpness.
Staying in aperture priority and activating the flash has eradicated the shadows that have been created in the ambient light, although it is cloudy. Nice catchlights are visible in the eyes and skin tone is well balanced, without getting bleached out highlights.
The macro shot was taken in view of Live to get the camera below the poppy and firing at the sky. Of course, a gust of wind came along I took the photo blowing slightly off center and only face the petals are in the spotlight, but it shows what can be achieved using vision and curves.
In Live View, the measurement can be adjusted by moving the white square on the screen using the navigation pad. Measurement of field lights up the grass and loses contrast slightly. This is remedied by measuring the sky and can see the change of image on the screen as you move around the square.
I took the landscape shot in landscape mode and aperture priority set at f / 8 yf/22. The landscape mode has set an opening of f/6.4 and the picture begins to lose focus toward infinity. The rocks in the foreground are sharp as is the balance beam lock. There are also good detail on the lawn.
The photo taken at f / 8 has more detail in general through greater focal plane and I still do not understand the reasoning behind the choice of how to landscape a larger opening.
Shooting at f/22 shows a balanced approach across the image, although it is slightly soft.
Chromatic aberration is present at the edges of the white bars that lead into the lock, but this may be a problem with the lens of the camera.
The DIGIC III processor comes into its own as the noise levels are unusually low. In fact, noise is not showing up to ISO800 which is a great result. ISO1600 has some objects that show here and there, but it’s still a great performance.
With the noise results like these, I am sure why Canon did not set a higher ISO rating, because with results like this, which could easily reach ISO3200.
With the popularity of the EOS 400D, this model will not lose any points as the young, beautiful, slender and smarter brother.
The high performance of the outcome of the Canon I, along with the notorious ease of use by EOS 1000D is perfect for its target audience.
I do not like the material used in the handgrip, I think that makes the camera feel cheaper than it really is. I do not like the fact that you can not use a remote control, either released or lack of spot metering.
For an entry model, it is also very expensive. It is more expensive than the higher specification, although older, 400D and 450d and more expensive than the new Olympus E-420 and Pentax K200D. Is bound to be expensive when for the first time, but this is too high to meet the claim made by Canon SLR digital photography more affordable and accessible. I have marked the overall score for this same reason.
